IN HER ELEMENT

Centre stage with Khenya
by Isha Sesay

Khenya is quickly establishing herself as one of the most exciting names on the international circuit. With a growing catalogue of productions and a global touring schedule, the DJ and producer is carving out her own distinctive sound. Blending Indie, Melodic and Afro influences, her sets move with intention, balancing groove and emotion while responding instinctively to the crowd. Returning to Blue Marlin Ibiza this summer, Khenya brings a sound shaped by rhythm, energy and connection.

How has life on the road influenced your music?
Living on the road keeps me inspired. Every place has its own energy, and that naturally shapes my sound. It’s made me more open and fluid.

What has been shaping your sound in the studio lately?
I’ve been focusing on balancing groove and emotion, moving between Indie, Melodic and Afro influences. With several releases coming this year, I’ve been refining my sound to feel more cohesive and true to where I am now.

How do you keep pushing your sound forward as an artist?
By not getting too comfortable. I listen to a lot of music, get inspired by different artists, and keep experimenting, both in the studio and on the dancefloor.

Is there a moment during a set when everything comes together for you?
Yes, when the crowd stops thinking and just feels. That moment when everything connects.

What journey do you want to take the crowd on at Blue Marlin this summer?
A journey that feels natural and evolving, moving from deeper, hypnotic sounds into something more emotional and uplifting, guided by the energy in the moment.

What excites you most about the next chapter of your career?
Defining my sound more clearly and sharing music that feels true to me. It’s a more intentional phase.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence right now?
A balance between groove and emotion, where Indie, Melodic and Afro meet.
