SHIFTING SILHOUETTES

Uncovering the art of Kevin Bubbles
By Isha Sesay

Kevin Bubbles moves between reality and reinterpretation, pushing the boundaries of visual
storytelling. Drawing from diverse mediums, his work merges realism with distortion, creating
images that feel both familiar and elusive. Rather than relying on AI as a creative force, it serves
as a tool to bypass traditional limitations to focus on concept and composition. His process
deconstructs and reassembles everyday moments, reshaping perception to challenge the way
we see the world.
Describe your artistic identity.
My artistic identity is deeply rooted in visual storytelling, with my work being heavily inspired by
documentary photography, cinema, fashion and urban art. I want to convey a sense of realism
balanced with surreal elements and raw intensity.
How did you first discover your passion for digital art?
From a young age, I was curious about graphic design and have always been interested in
photography, experimenting with analogue cameras and vintage lenses on modern equipment.
I’ve always been fascinated by the way images can tell stories and evoke emotions. When I
discovered the potential of AI to reinterpret styles, textures and narratives, I saw an opportunity
to take my ideas to another level. It allows me to bypass the limitations of traditional
photography and focus entirely on creation, which is what I truly enjoy.
What is your creative process and how do you put together an AI creation?
I start with a mental game, taking everyday situations and pushing them into unexpected
territory. I’m not looking for an easy shock factor but rather a shift in perspective, making the
eye see something familiar in a new way. Sometimes, I want to provoke a smile, other times, a
critique. Once I have the idea, I create a base image, then I refine the prompts until I achieve
something that truly reflects what I have in mind. After that, I move on to post-production, where
I add textures, lighting, or integrate additional elements until I reach the final concept.
As an AI artist, do you have a muse or do your inspirations emerge from the algorithm?
My muse isn’t the algorithm itself but the ability to reinterpret styles and emotions through it.
Rather than relying on AI, I use it as a tool to materialise ideas that already exist in my mind. My
inspiration comes from the tangible.
How does it feel to blur the lines between reality and artificial creativity?
It’s a weird feeling. The ability to generate complex images and concepts is incredibly powerful
and creates a sense of tension between the viewer and the artwork. AI allows for images that
feel like they’ve been pulled from a memory, a dream or an unmade film. I’m interested in that
“almost real” sensation, where the viewer questions whether what they’re seeing existed or is a reconstruction of something that could have been.
What emotions or ideas do you hope to evoke in your audience?
I want to create a visual impact and provoke a reaction, whether it’s awe, nostalgia or unease. I
want my work to spark questions, as if an image can make someone stop for a few seconds,
then it has served its purpose.
Where is your curiosity taking you?
I’m fascinated by the connections between seemingly unrelated concepts and unusual
situations. I’m always looking to take my mind to unique places and translate those ideas into a
format that blends the organic with the digital, mixing the future with the past and bringing it into
the present.
What’s next for you?
To continue exploring, learning, and refining my visual universe. I’m also focused on integrating
AI into brand content creation, editorial projects and visual strategies. Additionally, I plan to
experiment with movement in my work, expand into new exhibition spaces, and connect with a broader audience.
