Guiding Light
By Isha Sesay
Eli Rojas continues to redefine the rhythm of the island with her unmistakable energy and signature sounds. As a pioneer of Latin music, the DJ continues to shape its identity through her transcendent sets and magnetic presence where each performance is a mission to connect, uplift and transport. Guided by authenticity and fuelled by love, her music resonates far beyond the dancefloor.
Your signature Latin Urban Groove sound continues to evolve. How do you keep your sets fresh and exciting?
I always keep my sets fresh by constantly searching for new sounds. I’m always digging for music, whether it’s discovering exclusive tracks or producing my own. I never go for the obvious top five hits and prefer to play music that feels unique, underground and true to me.
Your music is full of passion and vibrancy. What keeps you grounded and focused before a show?
For me, music is my mission. I always prepare mentally and emotionally before I play, because I know I have a job to do: to create a beautiful atmosphere at Blue Marlin Ibiza. That sense of purpose is what keeps me grounded. My goal is to make people dance, to help them enjoy and connect.
What do you hope people feel when they experience one of your sets?
I want them to feel like they’re having the best time of their lives. Through the vibrations of my music, I want to transport them to Latin America and feel the soul of places like Brazil, Colombia and Jamaica. Even though they’re in Ibiza, I want them to feel like they’ve travelled somewhere entirely new through my sound.
How has your Amazona residency grown since you first started?
I feel the growth of Amazona across the island and beyond. What began as a vision has become a movement. I’ve seen Latin music embraced in ways that once felt impossible and Amazona has played a defining role in that shift, inspiring not only other venues in Ibiza but also scenes around the world. It’s powerful to witness how this concept has opened doors for Latin music, and I’m proud to be its pioneer.
What is your musical vision for your Blue Marlin Ibiza residency this year?
My focus will always be Latin music. Amazona is rooted in genres like Salsa, Reggae, Cumbia, and Afro-Latin rhythms and its about honouring those roots while sharing them in a fresh, elevated way. This year, we continue to be the light guiding where this music is going.
Tell us what makes a Blue Marlin Ibiza crowd so special.
There’s a certain magic at Blue Marlin Ibiza. People come with friends and family to celebrate life, enjoy music and share beautiful moments. There’s a deep connection between the crowd, the DJ and the dancers. It’s a reunion of joy and energy, where everyone is there to have a good time, and that makes it truly special.
If you could go back to when you first arrived on the island, what advice would you give your younger self?
Be original, different and real. Don’t try to copy anyone, just focus on becoming the best version of yourself.
What’s next for you?
I’m really excited to keep building my record label, Gaia Mama, and to grow Amazona even further. These two projects are close to my heart, and I want to carry them forward with love and authenticity. There’s so much more to come.
